One to One Interactive's Life Sciences Practice to participate in FDA hearings on direct-to-consumer promotion of regulated medical products
October 24, 2005
James Gardner, Group Director of One to One Interactive's Life
Sciences practice, has been invited to participate in the US Food
and Drug Administration's (FDA) upcoming public hearings on
direct-to-consumer (DTC) promotion of regulated medical products in
Washington, DC on November 1, 2005.
The FDA hearings are intended to provide an opportunity for
broad public participation and comment on the general concept of
DTC promotion and its role and consequences, positive or negative.
Amongst several topics, the hearings will specifically examine the
rapid emergence of the Internet and other non-traditional
direct-to-consumer communication channels and explore potential
regulatory implications. The hearings will serve as a critical
input for the FDA and legislators as they evaluate DTC promotion
and potential changes to the current regulatory environment.
"After almost 10 years of helping our pharmaceutical clients
leverage the interactive channel to reach, educate, and influence
consumers, we've developed strong points of view on its strengths
and weaknesses," says Gardner. "As a leader, we have a public
responsibility to share our perspective on this emerging channel
and the role it should play. We're thrilled at the opportunity to
participate."
Senior leaders from Pfizer, the American Medical Association
(AMA), the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (AHSP),
Kaiser Permanente, the American Advertising Federation (AAF), and
the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA)
are among those also expected to participate.
