The Real Life Social NetworkLike it or not, the web is undergoing a phenomenal change right now. No longer is it about individual pages, links or how you integrate with websites. It's about you, your information, your connections and how that information interacts with other websites.

Like it or not, the web is undergoing a phenomenal change right now. No longer is it about individual pages, links or how you integrate with websites. It’s about you, your information, your connections and how that information interacts with other websites.

Turns out it’s not as simple as you’d think. His presentation is a must-read for anyone who is designing user interfaces and works in the social space.

Facebook’s Titan shouldn’t be scary for email marketersMost email marketing postings about Facebook's Project Titan - rumored to be a whitelist-based webmail service - have focused on using fan pages to get onto subscribers' friend lists. Adding Facebook Connect to your signup pages and preference centers may be all you need to get to their inbox.

Christopher Penn of Blue Sky Factory suggests a mechanism to gain permission to email involving setting up fan pages and getting yourself onto a recipient’s friend list. I think this misses a key point.

Last October Facebook announced they would change the rules about how applications and Facebook Connect-enabled sites can contact their users. The change went into effect March 1 this year. They removed most of the options to notify subscribers within Facebook channels, but vitally they now provide access to the Facebook subscriber’s email address (with their permission), and unlike other personal information, allow you to store it to use indefinitely. It seems very lik…

The Myth of the Authentic Social Media VoiceThe new medium of social media demands a new voice – that’s clear. The medium is the message etc etc. And one way media – the tottering dinosaurs of print, TV, radio and even their more nimble descendents, websites and email – look more and more like the forced propaganda of a failing regime.
